Hi All,
I've decided to create a new blog dedicated to eating and cooking, two of my passions in life. If you are interested in those things, or me, please check it out sometime: http://thehalfozjoint.blogspot.com/
Meanwhile, enjoy this picture I found while image googling "food"; it was the second result.

Once, when asked the secret to her long-lasting marriage, Julia Child replied, The three Fs: food and flattery.
note: this post was edited from it's original form since I felt unsure that the original quote was really from julia child. i find this paraphrase to be much more believable and funnier anyways.

So I've been meaning to do this face recognition thing on myheritage.com for a while now. And I was reminded by sarahmae today. So anyways, I tried several photos of myself to these results:
What the hell? Who IS this?
Well, that's cool. All men seem to think she's HOT.
This guy came up a few times. His name is Jay Chou; he's a Taiwanese pop singer. One of few Asian results. Damn, I was hoping for Ziyi Zhang!!
She's a bitch. But I guess I look like her?
Clearly the best result ever!!
So anyways, do I actually look like any of these people? you tell me.

I previously held the opinion that McDonald's was contributing to
globalization and the decline of traditional foods and cultures in
other countries by serving crappy American fast food. But it turns out
not only are they making people fat with Quarter Pounders, they're
making people fat with their own food! Let's see some of the
perpetrators...

I'm heading to San Francisco for the weekend, but I will leave you with
this best of 2005 list from my favorite food blogger. I'm too lazy to
write any lists of my own, and his is funnier anyways. So check it out
if you like eggs and laughing. My favorite is the pope. Click on
the microwave.

For my birthday this year, I tried out some new recipes on my friends.
I've made dim sum before, but never steamed bao. Bamboo steamers are so
pretty and fun to use!

Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures, but I made char siu bao (bbq
pork buns), potstickers, spring rolls, and mochi cupcakes. Here are
some pictures of tasty things. I'm just hungry.

I think this bib is so cute. But usually I manage to eat without getting it all over myself so I guess I don't need it.

This was posted on the Echo Park myspace group:
"drove home last night from the echo around 3am. headed north on echo park ave, towards scott. the LAPD had 'yellow taped' the entire intersection. we noticed a body covered in a white sheet and about 30 cops investigating.
after asking around this morning, there had been a drive by shooting and a teen - early 20's kid was gunned down. its weird because i've been in echo park for about 5 years and the shooting has really subsided since the influx of hipsters. last night was just an example that this shit still goes on in echo park. the gangs have been here way longer than the 'hollywood' types."
I totally didn't notice that at all, but it was probably on Friday night (judging by the date of post). Dude, that is fucking scary. Miguel and I were walking around that night to the Brite Spot and the House of Spirits. But I can't let this incident scare me out of the neighborhood or of using the neighborhood. Frankly, this is the only thing that I've heard of happening in Echo Park since I've moved here, and I'm much more concerned about my car being hit again than drive by shootings. But it is important to remember to be aware of one's surroundings. Everyone be safe.

I knew there was something even creepier about Ethan on LOST:
is related to

Tom Cruise's cousin William Mapother played Etham Rom -- before he was shot to death -- on ABC's Lost

This year I have come to have a deep respect for the actor Charlize
Theron. Not only has she guest starred on one of the best TV shows
ever, Arrested Development, Charlize and her boyfriend have stated they
will not get married until gay marriage is legalized. Way to go, girl!
Seriously, she's hilarious as Rita:

But once I saw these pictures, I knew I had found a fellow McGyver smoker!!

Charlize, let's be friends.
This post brought to you by Celebrity Stoners.

This weekend was so awesome. Here's a not so quick recap:
Miguel and I left for San Francisco at 3:15am on Thursday morning. Two
taxis, two buses, and a train later we arrived at my high school
friend, Anya's, apartment in Russian Hill. After a quick nap, we headed
over to my cousin Merri's house for some Thanksgiving din din with the
fam fam. We were relegated to the kids table (where the youngest was a
senior in high school, my family needs to start reproducing again!),
but that's always more fun anyways. My favorite dish at this
Thanksgiving table is my Aunt Jackie's rice stuffing. Here are the
ingredients to get your mouth watering as I can't find a picture:
shiitake mushrooms,
minced scallions, garlic, ginger,
Chinese pork sausage, fresh water chestnuts, and glutinous rice.
The next day Miguel, Anya and I headed over to the Haight for
some window shopping and Amoeba browsing. We bought a beautiful chillum
for our friend's upcoming birthday from a very pushy saleslady. She is
the one who sold me my little bowl, which is really cute, but no one
likes smoking it because the proximity of flame to nose is too close
for comfort. Here's a picture of a holy man smoking a chillum using the
technique that I cannot master for some reason:

After driving down Lombard street (crookedest street in the world!)
with what seemed all the other tourists currently in San Francisco, we
met up with my Grandpa for dinner at Michelangelo's at Washington
Square Park in the North Beach. They have the best
calamari. Later that night we headed over to the Elbo Room in the
Mission District to get our groove on. It's a pretty cool place,
in the vein of the Echo/Little Temple, but we were a little
disappointed by the music.
On Saturday we hit up Chinatown for some dim sum and some
souvenir/Christmas shopping. It's my favorite Chinatown.
Somehow it just seems more authentic than all the others. We also
took a driving tour of the Castro, the Mission, Golden Gate Park, and
Golden Gate Bridge for Miguel, who's never been to San Francisco
before. We had dinner at the cutest little sushi restaurant in
Russian Hill.

This is the sushi bar and the only picture I could find online. It doesn't really do the restaurant justice.
After eating so late, we were pooped and only managed to smoke bowl
after bowl and watch 3 1/2 hours of the National Geographic channel
before passing out. Actually, I kept hearing scary noises from
outside after watching a scary show about dingoes eating humans in
Austrailia.
The trip home was interesting despite being delayed for 3 hours.
Seated behind us on the train was a group of 60 year olds getting
smashed on wine. We ate in the dining car (for the experience,
the food was pretty awful) where they served a turkey dinner. Who
the hell wants to eat more turkey after Thanksgiving weekend? The
turkey combined with a bunch of wine caused me to pass out, but Miguel
continued to get drink until we arrived at Union Station. The
best part about traveling on the train has to be the availability of
alcohol. It seemed everyone around us was drinking heavily, and
why not? We weren't driving! Of course, there are those
nice views of the California coast (that we missed because you can't
see shit from the train after the sun goes down) and the lack of
traffic, but I like the drankin!
So in conclusion, I had a fabulous time in San Francisco, and I can't
wait to go back. I'm thinking for the Bay to Breakers Race?

Doesn't that look like fun? And it's all for charity!

Mine is Suave Sativa. I'm not actually sure what that means, but it sounds suspiciously similar to someone's porn name. What's yours?

Best News EVER!

BOSTON, MA, United States (UPI) -- Rapper Snoop Dogg is launching his own line of foot-long hot dogs.
'Snoop Doggs' are being made in Massachusetts and will hit store shelves in January, the Boston Herald reports.
'There
aren`t any celebrity hot dogs out there,' Snoop`s brother and business
manager Bing Worthington told the Herald. 'Who`s the competition? Ball
Park? ... Imagine a long, skinny hot dog just like Snoop.'
Bing said his brother is just looking out for his financial future.
'Snoop takes advantage of everything,' he said. 'This rap money isn`t long. Just ask MC Hammer.'

So apparently Johnny Depp has given Kate Moss a gift to celebrate her
release from rehab in Arizona. The gift is a mirror, which according to
an old Native American belief will allow her to face herself without
fear.
Dlisted has this to say: Um..is it smart to give someone a mirror after they just left rehab for cocaine addiction?
p.s. this post involves two things I enjoy, can you spot them?
p.p.s. please don't answer that question
